Mucoceles, also known as a mucous cyst, on the tongue, are fluid-filled sacs that usually result after an injury or trauma that ruptures the salivary gland duct and leaks into the soft tissues of the mouth or in the tongue area. 

Mucocele or Ranula under the tongue and other areas of the mouth can also come out as a result of blockage of the salivary glands. Generally, a mucocele is harmless and there is no need to visit the doctor unless it already manifests pain and swelling.

A mucocele is usually a single bump with a slightly bluish or normal skin color and it is soft and painless.
